Members Leaving the Cluster
This section describes the mechanism for members leaving
the cluster.
Members Initiatively Leaving the Cluster
After an administrator disables the cluster function, members initiatively
leave the cluster. The basic mechanism is as follows:
- The administrator disables the cluster function on a device.
- The device notifies other members in the cluster of the initiative
quit.
- The management master device adjusts the master/backup relationship
of the corresponding business group and notifies other cluster members
of the quit.
- Other member devices adjust the business group's master/backup
status according to the management master device's instruction.
Members Passively Leaving the Cluster
If
an interface on a member device fails or the device is powered off,
the device passively leaves the cluster. After a cluster is created,
master and backup devices in the cluster periodically send Hello packets
to each other (backup devices will not send Hello packets to each
other). If the master device does not receive Hello packets from a
peer within the timeout period, it considers the peer not in the cluster
any more.
- An interface on the device fails or the device is powered off,
the heartbeat connection between the device and cluster is interrupted.
- The management master device detects the heartbeat interruption
and confirms that the device has left the cluster after the timeout
period expires.
- The management master device adjusts the master/backup relationship
of the corresponding business group and notifies other cluster members
of the quit.
- Other member devices adjust the business group's master/backup
status according to the management master device's instruction.
