This section describes the hardware, software, and license requirements for hot standby.
The two FWs that form a hot standby group must be of the same model with the same number and types of boards installed in the same layout. For the USG6680E and USG6712E/6716E, the BomID Version of the two devices of the same model in hot standby mode must match. That is, the device whose BomID Version is 000, 001, or 002 cannot set up a hot standby environment with the device whose BomID Version is 003 or later. You can run the display version command to view BomID Version.
The hard disk configurations of the two FWs can be different. For example, if one FW has hard disks and the other does not, hot standby functions will not be affected. However, the log storage capacity of the FW without a hard disk is much lower than that of the FW with a hard disk. In addition, some log and report functions are unavailable.
The system software version, system patch version, dynamically loaded component package, signature database version, HASH-based CPU selection mode, and hash gene of the two FWs must be the same.
Actually, during the upgrade or rollback of the system software, the two FWs can run the system software of different versions temporarily.
The hot standby function does not require a license. However, other functions, such as IPS and antivirus functions, require a license, and the licenses cannot be shared by the two FWs in a hot standby group and must be purchased for and loaded to both FWs. The licenses on the two FWs must have the same control items, resource quantity, and upgrade service expiration time.
