Configuring ICMPv6 Attributes

If many ICMPv6 error packets are sent on the network within a short period, network congestion may occur. To prevent this situation, you can set the maximum number of ICMPv6 error packets that can be sent within a specified period.

Context

ICMPv6 error packets can be classified into the following types:

  • Destination unreachable error packet

    Unreachable destination packets are as follows:

    • No route to the destination

    • Address unreachable

    • Port unreachable

      Only port unreachable messages are supported.

  • Datagram Too Big message

  • Timeout error packet

  • Parameter error packet

  • Route redirection packet

Procedure

  1. Access the system view.

    system-view

  2. Disable the function of sending ICMPv6 route redirection packets or set the rate for sending ICMPv6 error packets.
    • To disable the function of sending ICMPv6 route redirection packets, run the undo firewall icmpv6-error enable command.

    • To set the rate for sending ICMPv6 error packets, run the ipv6 icmp-error { bucket bucket-size | ratelimit interval } * command.
