Configuring the Broadcast Mode

This part describes how to configure the NTP broadcast mode to synchronize clocks in a broadcast domain.

Procedure

  • Configuring an NTP Broadcast Server

Perform the following steps on the FW functioning as an NTP broadcast server:

    1. Access the system view.

      system-view

    2. Set the interface that sends NTP broadcast packets.

      interface interface-type interface-number

    3. Configure the FW as an NTP broadcast server.

      ntp-service broadcast-server [ version number | [ authentication-keyid key-id | autokey ] | port port-number ] *

After the configuration is complete, the FW periodically sends clock synchronization packets to the broadcast address 255.255.255.255.

Broadcast mode can be used only in the same LAN.

  • Configuring an NTP Broadcast Client

Perform the following steps on the FW functioning as an NTP broadcast client:

    1. Access the system view.

      system-view

    2. Optional: Set the number of local sessions that can be set up dynamically.

      ntp-service max-dynamic-sessions number

By default, a maximum of 100 NTP sessions can be set up dynamically.

Running the command does not affect the existence of NTP sessions. When the number of the sessions reaches or exceeds the maximum, the new session cannot be set up further.

    3. Set the interface that receives broadcast NTP packets.

      interface interface-type interface-number

    4. Configure the FW as an NTP broadcast client.

      ntp-service broadcast-client

After the configuration is complete, the local FW receives the broadcast NTP packets sent from the server and synchronizes the local clock.
