Configuring the PoE Power
This section describes how to configure the PoE power.
Context
You can specify the maximum output power of PoE power supply,
and set the ratio of reserved PoE power, PoE alarm threshold, and maximum output power of each
interface. You need to learn about the power of each PD and set power parameters based on the
power requirements of the PDs connected to the device to effectively use the PoE power and ensure
the stable running of the system.
Procedure
- Set the maximum output power of PoE power supply on the device.
- Access the system view.
system-view
- Set the maximum output power of PoE power supply.
poe max-power max-power
By default, the maximum output power of PoE power
supply on the device is 60000 mW.
- Set the maximum output power of an interface.
For some non-standard and unclassified PDs,
the power negotiation results may be different from the actual power required by the PDs. Setting
the maximum output power of an interface protects the PD from overload and saves power.
- Access the system view.
system-view
- Access the view of an interface.
interface interface-type interface-number
- Set the maximum output power of the interface.
poe power port-max-power
By default, the maximum output power of an interface
is 30000 mW.
- Set the ratio of reserved PoE power.
During running, the power consumption of each PD
keeps changing. In some cases, when power consumption increases sharply, the remaining power
of the system cannot support the increasing power consumption. The software system may not have
time to power off the PDs connected to interfaces with low priorities before PoE overload protection
is triggered. As a result, all PDs are powered off. To prevent such a situation, you need to
properly set the reserved power of the system. The reserved power supports sharply increasing
power requirements, so that the PSE has time to power off the PDs connected to interfaces with
low priorities.
- Access the system view.
system-view
- Set the ratio of the reserved PoE power to the maximum output power.
poe power-reserved power-reserved
The default
ratio is 20%.
- Set a PoE alarm threshold.
The reserved power can deal with the power increase within a
certain range. If power consumption is too high, some PDs may be powered off. You can set an
alarm threshold, so that an alarm is generated when power consumption exceeds the alarm threshold.
In this case, you should take measures to reduce the power consumption.
- Access the system view.
system-view
- Set a PoE alarm threshold.
poe power-threshold threshold-value
The default alarm threshold is 90% of the maximum PoE output power. When power consumption
exceeds 90% of the maximum PoE output power, the POE_1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.195.40.17 hwPoePowerOverUtilizationThreshold alarm is generated.
