The snmp-agent inform command sets global parameters for the Inform function, including the timeout period for waiting for Inform ACK messages, the number of times to retransmit Inform messages, and maximum number of pending Inform messages (that is, the Inform messages waiting to be acknowledged).
The undo snmp-agent inform command restores default values of global parameters.
By default, the time-out waiting period for Inform ACK messages is 15 seconds, the number of times to retransmit Inform messages is 3, and the maximum number of informs in the trap queue is 39.

| Parameter | Description | Value |
|---|---|---|
| timeout seconds | Specifies the timeout period for waiting for Inform ACK messages from the NM Station. | The value ranges from 1 to 1800, in seconds. The default value of this parameter is 15 seconds, equaling timeout seconds configured globally. |
| resend-times times | Specifies the number of times to resend Inform messages when no ACK messages are returned from the NM Station. The value ranges from 0 to 10. | The value ranges from 0 to 10. The default value of this parameter is 3 seconds, equaling resend-times times configured globally. |
| pending number | Specifies the maximum number of Inform messages waiting to be acknowledged. | The value ranges from 1 to 2048. By default, the maximum number is 39. The value range and default value of this parameter may vary with products. |
| address | Indicates the IP address of the destination host to which SNMP messages are sent. address in conjunction with securityname identifies a host. | - |
| udp-domain | Indicates that the transfer domain of the destination host is UDP. | - |
| ip-address | Specifies the IP address of the destination host. | - |
| vpn-instance vpn-instance-name | Specifies the VPN instance name. | The name is a string of 1 to 31 characters without spaces. vpn-instance is optional. In a VPN, you must specify this parameter together with the address and security name to identify a host. |
| params | Indicates the host that generates SNMP messages. | - |
| securityname security-string | Specifies the user name displayed on the NM Station. For SNMPv3, securityname must be configured as the user name. securityname configured on the host needs to be the same as that configured on the NMS, or the NMS cannot receive the trap messages sent from the host. For SNMPv2c, the NMS can receive trap messages from all hosts without having securityname configured. securityname is used to distinguish multiple hosts that generate trap messages. |
The value is a string of 1 to 32 simple text characters or 48 or 68 ciphertext characters, spaces not supported. A string of 32 or 56 ciphertext characters are also supported. NOTE:
When double quotation marks are used around the string, spaces are allowed in the string. |
| cipher | Indicates the password in ciphertext. The simple password or the ciphertext password can be entered. The password in the configuration file is displayed in ciphertext. NOTE:
If the
keyword is not specified, enter the simple password only. |

By default, the time-out waiting period for Inform ACK messages is 15 seconds, the number of times to retransmit Inform messages is 3, and the maximum number of informs in the trap queue is 39.
Usage Scenario
The three parameters are dependent and determine whether the Inform messages can be sent or not. For example, if the timeout or resend-times becomes greater but the value of pending keeps unchanged, the number of the Inform messages waiting for being acknowledged increases and the alarm queue quickly becomes full. When the alarm queue is full, the earliest alarm in the queue must be deleted when an alarm is added to the queue. The deleted alarm cannot be resent.
At this time, the snmp-agent inform command can be used to increase the value of pending to avoid the deletion of pending alarms.
The snmp-agent inform command configures parameters of Inform messages, including the timeout period for waiting for Inform ACK messages from the NMS, times to resend Inform messages, and maximum number of the Inform messages waiting to be acknowledged.
Prerequisites
Parameters of Inform messages can take effect only after the destination address for receiving Inform messages is configured using the snmp-agent target-host inform command.
Precautions
The three parameters must be properly set according to network conditions. Otherwise, SNMP working efficiency will be affected.
