The vrrp virtual-ip ping enable command enables the active device to respond to ping packets.
The vrrp virtual-ip ping disable or undo vrrp virtual-ip ping enable command forbids the active device to respond to ping packets.
By default, the active device can respond to ping packets.
Usage Scenario
By default, the active device is enabled to respond to ping packets sent to a virtual IP address.
In the VRRP protocol, the ping commands cannot be used to detect the reachability of the virtual IP address of the backup group. Thus, the users connected to the FW cannot use the ping commands to determine whether the destination IP address is used by the backup group. To detect the reachability of the virtual IP address of the backup group, run the vrrp virtual-ip ping enable command.
Precautions
The virtual IP address must be different from the IP address of the user host. If the IP address of the user host is the same as the virtual IP address of the backup group, all the packets in this network segment are sent to the user host. Consequently, the data on this network cannot be correctly forwarded.
After the undo vrrp virtual-ip ping enable command is run to disable the active device from responding to ping packets sent to a virtual IP address, the host route for the virtual IP address is deleted. As a result, services transmitted using the host route are interrupted.
