Usage Guidelines

By default, the timeout period for a FW to wait to receive Hello messages from its PIM neighbor is 105 seconds.

This command is valid for PIM-SM and PIM-DM.

If the FW does not receive any Hello message from its PIM neighbor before the timeout, the FW regards the neighbor invalid or unreachable.

The timeout time should be longer than the interval for sending the Hello message. You can use the timer hello command to set the interval for sending Hello message.

This command functions in the same way as the pim hello-option holdtime command in the interface view, except for the view. By default, if the configuration on the interface is not done, the value configured in the PIM view is used; otherwise, the value configured in the interface view is used.

Example

# Set the timeout interval to 120 seconds. The timeout interval is the period during which a FW waits to receive the Hello message from its PIM neighbor.
