Overview of Audit Policy

Definition

The audit function records the Internet access behavior defined in the audit policy for future audits and analysis.

Objective

The audit function addresses the following issues:

• Visiting illegitimate websites not only reduces productivity but also compromises network security.
• Browsing, posting, and disseminating illegitimate information damages corporate images and even opens door to legal complications.
• Uploading or advertising corporate security information through the Internet causes data leaks.
• Sending confidential, gambling, and pornographic information or browsing gambling and pornographic information through email comprises network security.

The audit policies of the FW can resolve the preceding issues. After the audit function is enabled, the FW logs the HTTP, FTP, mail-related, and IM behavior. You can use various reports, audit logs, and user activity logs to audit and analyze the Internet access behavior of users and identify the users and user behavior that compromises network security. You can also use this information to fine-tune security policies in the future.
