The register-suppression-timeout command sets the timeout period during which a FW keeps the Register suppression state.
The undo register-suppression-timeout command restores the default value of the timeout period.
| Parameter | Description | Value |
|---|---|---|
| interval | Specifies the timeout period during which the FW keeps the Register suppression state. | The value is an integer that ranges from 11 to 3600, in seconds. |
By default, the timeout period during which a FW keeps the Register suppression state is 60 seconds.
After receiving a Register-Stop message from the Rendezvous Point (RP), the FW immediately stops sending the Register message and enters the register suppression state.
If the timeout period is too short, the RP receives burst multicast data more frequently. If the timeout period is too long, when an (S, G) entry on the RP times out, the delay for a new receiver to join a group is long.
If a FW is configured to send null Register messages before the suppression timer times out using the probe-interval command, the burst register is prevented. This shortens the timeout period to reduce the delay for a new receiver to join a group.
The interval set using the register-suppression-timeout command must be greater than two times the interval set using the probe-interval command.
