Overview of Antivirus

This section provides the definition and objective of antivirus.

Definition

A virus is a type of malicious codes that infect or attach to application programs or files and spread through such protocols as email or file sharing to compromise host and network security. Viruses may exhaust host resources, occupy bandwidth, gain control access to hosts, steal data, or even corrupt hardware.

Antivirus is a security mechanism that identifies and remove viruses to secure the network and prevent such problems as data corruption, permission escalation, and system crash.

Objective

Online file transfer and sharing are convenient not only for work but also for virus spreading. How to protect hosts and networks from viruses for data security and system stability is a major concern of enterprises.

The antivirus function depends on the powerful and constantly updated virus signature database to secure the network and system data. The virus detection device deployed at the ingress of the enterprise network shields the network from viruses for security.
