Overview of File Blocking

This section describes the definition and objective of file blocking.

Definition

File blocking is a security mechanism that blocks files by file type.

Objective

Currently, the loss of enterprises' confidential information and users' personal information has become a major concern in information security. Viruses infect files or attach to files to escape detection and penetrate firewalls. However, traditional firewalls and UTM devices cannot meet requirements on file security. Therefore, file blocking technologies are developed.

Usually, confidential information is stored in document files and viruses are attached to executable files. File blocking filters out specified types of files to reduce the risks of information leaks and virus infections on an intranet.

To further reduce the risks of information leaks and virus infections on the intranet, you can also apply data filtering and antivirus (AV).
