Limitations and Precautions for IP-MAC Binding

Hardware Requirements

The IP-MAC binding is supported by all models.

License Requirements

The IP-MAC Binding is not license-controlled.

Limitations

  • With this function, the binding relationship is static binding and only applicable to the scenario where the IP addresses of users are fixed. If IP addresses are dynamically assigned through DHCP, this function becomes unavailable. In this case, if this function is adopted, normal users cannot communicate with each other.
  • Currently, the IP-MAC binding function supports only the binding between IPv4 and MAC addresses but not the binding between IPv6 and MAC addresses.
  • The IP-MAC binding check function cannot be used together with the across-Layer-3 MAC identification function.

Precautions

  • IP address and MAC address binding is applicable to only Ethernet links. During the configuration, you should ensure the correct mapping between the IP address and the MAC address. If the mapping changes, you need to update the configuration in time; otherwise, the normal running of services may be affected.
  • For the packet received by non-Ethernet interfaces, do not configure IP address and MAC address binding for the source IP address; otherwise, the packet is discarded.
