Limitations and Precautions for VPN Client Upgrade

Hardware Requirements

The USG6510E/6510E-POE/6530E does not provide the local upgrade function. The administrator needs to place the SecoClient software on a file server and then enters the URL address of the file server in network extension client address or execute the vpn-client software url url, set here is the corresponding file server URL address. After the mobile user logs in to the SSL VPN gateway from a browser and clicks the Download network extension client link, the page is automatically redirected to the software download page. The mobile user can then download the required SecoClient software installation package.

License Requirements

The VPN Client Upgrade function is not license-controlled.

Limitations

• The SecoClient that supports this version has no longer evolved and cannot be downloaded from the Huawei Support website. The downloaded SecoClient can still be used. SecoClient configuration examples and common configuration problems are retained in the document. When users need to use the SSL VPN function through client access, see : VPN Client Download Description.
• When a mobile user is downloading the VPN client software installation package, the network administrator cannot upload the package to the FW successfully.
• If you have not uploaded the SecoClient software installation package to the FW, the Download Network Extension Client link is not displayed after the mobile user logs in to the SSL VPN gateway from a browser.
• The device does not resolve the contents of the client software installation package. You can use the Software digital signature validation tool (PGP Verify) to verify the integrity of the installation package to ensure that the complete installation package file is uploaded.

Precautions

• It is recommended that a single user upload the VPN client software installation package within the same time range. If multiple users simultaneously log in to the FW and upload the VPN client software installation package, an operation conflict may occur.
• Uploading the VPN client software installation package to the FW causes the CPU usage to increase. You are advised to upload the package during off-peak hours or in the maintenance window.
• Different software installation packages are available for the Windows (32-bit/64-bit), MAC and Linux (32-bit/64-bit) operating systems. Therefore, the administrator needs to upload the correct software installation package based on the operating system.
• The device also supports to upload the HUAWEI VPN Client software installation packages. For Windows systems, HUAWEI VPN Client has only one software installation package (applicable to both 32-bit and 64-bit systems). Therefore, select either Windows 32 or Windows 64 during the upload.
