Configuring a DHCPv6 PD Server

This section describes how to configure a DHCPv6 PD server.

Prerequisites

Choose Dashboard > Device Information and enable IPv6 globally to allow the FW to forward IPv6 packets.

Context

A DHCPv6 PD server globally maintains parameters, such as IPv6 addresses, prefixes, and information leases. DHCPv6 also assigns configuration information, such as the IPv6 addresses of DNS and SIP servers, to DHCPv6 clients. The DHCPv6 PD assigns prefixes to the client, and the client assigns addresses to host users.

Procedure

  1. Choose Network > DHCP Server > Settings.
  2. Click Add.

  3. Set the following basic DHCPv6 PD server parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Interface Name

Name of the interface on which the DHCPv6 PD server function is configured.

The interface must be an existing physical interface, and its Connection Type must be set to Static IP.

    Type

    Protocol type on the interface:

    • IPv4: enables DHCPv4.
    • IPv6: enables DHCPv6. Select IPv6 in this example.

    Service Type

Enable server service on this interface.

    (Optional)Primary DNS Server

Primary DNS PDserver address to be assigned to a DHCPv6 client.

    (Optional)Secondary DNS Server

Secondary DNS PDserver address to be assigned to a DHCPv6 client.

  4. Set parameters for the address pool.

    1. Click Add in Delegated Prefix. In the dialog box, click OK.
    2. Set parameters for the DHCPv6 PD address pool.

      • Setting basic parameters of the prefix pool

        Parameter

        Description

        Type

Type of a DHCPv6 PD prefix pool.

Select Prefix for a DHCPv6 PD delegation prefix pool.

        Prefix

        IPv6 prefix address/prefix length.

        Delegation Prefix Length

Address prefix length. The DHCPv6 PD client divides the prefix into subnet segments based on Delegation Prefix Length.

The length of a prefix to be assigned must be longer than or equal to the length of Prefix.

        Lease Duration

Lease duration of the prefix bound to the IPv6 address pool.

Use Unlimited or set a specific lease period.

      • (optional) Statically bind a DHCPv6 prefix to a DUID.

        1. Click Add in Static Prefix Binding. In the dialog box, click OK.

        2. Set the static prefix and DUID.

          Parameter

          Description

          Prefix

          IPv6 prefix.

An assigned IPv6 prefix is reserved for the client and cannot be assigned to another client.

          DHCPv6 Client DUID

Client DUID that the DHCPv6 PD server uses to identify a client.

          Lease Duration

Lease duration of the bound entry.

Select Unlimited or set a specific lease period.

        3. Click OK.

    3. Click OK.
  5. Optional: Set the following advanced DHCPv6 PD server parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Domain Name

DNS suffix that a DHCPv6 PD server assigns to a DHCPv6 client.

    SNTP Server

SNTP server address that a DHCPv6 PD server assigns to a DHCPv6 client.

    SIP Server

SIP server address that a DHCPv6 PD server assigns to a DHCPv6 client.

  6. Click Apply.

Repeat previous operations to configure the DHCPv6 PD server function on multiple interfaces.
